Lanham Lake (Stevens Pass). Park at the Stevens Pass Nordic Center (a few miles past the downhillers), follow alongside the cross-country skiers for ten yards and then turn left onto the trail uphill.
The trail climbs relentlessly for about a mile, plenty long enough to get the blood pumping and the outer layers back into the pack. It continues climbing sporadically for the next half-mile, followed by a short descent to the very scenic high-country Lanham Lake. A trail continues at the far side of the lake, but we wanted to get onto SR2 before the downhillers so we turned back. Most of the party walked gingerly across the frozen lake on the return trip.
